WASHINGTON — Offenbachers, the longtime D.C.-area patio furniture retailer that filed for bankruptcy and closed all its area stores last year, has made a comeback under new owners.
Local backyard products retailer Home Escapes has acquired the Offenbachers brand and many of its product lines, and has opened a new store in Rockville, Maryland.
The company also keeps a large showroom in Herndon, Virginia.
The revived Offenbachers is now called “Home Escapes and the New Offenbachers.” Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
“By using the term ‘the new Offenbachers,’ we are letting Offenbachers customers know that the level of customer service they can now expect from us has been elevated to the level that Home Escapes has built its reputation on over the last 30 years,” said Home Escapes President Dave Cintorino.
Home Escapes has not taken any of the former Offenbachers showroom locations. It says it will focus on its Herndon and Rockville locations because of convenience and reasonable rent.
“There is no need for us to be in the high-rent district,” said Cintorino, who founded the company in 1986.
“We’ve chosen to make our showrooms tasteful but unpretentious.”
The Herndon showroom is at 292 Sunset Park Drive near Reston Town Center. The Rockville showroom is at 5526 Nicholson Lane, just off Rockville Pike near the old White Fint Mall.
Lanham-based Offenbachers blamed stiff competition from big-retail chains like Lowe’s and Home Depot for its closing late last year.
Offenbachers started life in 1972 as a pool maintenance and lifeguard services company in Rockville. When it went out of business last October, it had eight stores in the D.C. area.
