Amazon to open 4th Va. distribution center, add 1K jobs

WASHINGTON – Amazon plans to build another distribution center in Virginia and create about 1,000 full-time jobs when it opens, the online retailer announced on Tuesday.

The fulfillment center, in Frederick County, Virginia, will be its fourth in the state. Amazon currently has 3,500 full time employees at its existing fulfillment centers in Chester, Petersburg and Sterling.

Amazon also operates a large distribution center in Baltimore and is building another in Cecil County, Maryland.

The Clear Brook fulfillment center will be 1 million square feet. Employees will sort, pack and ship larger customer items like televisions, kayaks and patio furniture, Amazon said.

Amazon recently said it intends to create more than 100,0000 jobs across the U.S. over the next 18 months.
