WASHINGTON — The Music Center at Strathmore will undergo a $10 million expansion and renovation that’s expected to be complete by 2020, in time for its 15-year anniversary.
“This project will be the capstone to the Music Center at Strathmore, extending to our patrons a level of customer service, dining and mobility no less grand than the remarkable concert hall itself,” Strathmore Chief Executive Officer Eliot Pfanstiehl said.
The renovation will add 5,000 square feet to the North Bethesda venue by enclosing its Bou Terrace, which will add 200 seats for preconcert dining and more space for rentals, meetings and smaller performances. Escalators will also be added.
The State of Maryland will provide an initial $3 million for the project, and the remaining funds will come from the state, Montgomery County and private donations.
More than 125,000 people attend Strathmore performances a year. In its latest season, Strathmore hosted 48 performances, 16 of which were sold out. It also hosts several free events and educational seminars.
In addition to its signature 2,000-seat concert hall, Strathmore also includes an education center.
