WASHINGTON — Celebrity chef Katsuya Fukushima, whose D.C. restaurants include Bantam King, Haikan and Daikaya, has created a special, limited-time hoagie for Taylor Gourmet to raise awareness of early childhood education.

The hoagie, called Champ for Children, will be available at Taylor Gourmet locations Oct. 3 -9 in partnership with local nonprofit Fight for Children, whose annual fundraiser boxing matches at the Washington Hilton, “Fight Night,” raises money for education and health care services for underserved children and their families in the District.

Taylor Gourmet says 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the hoagie will go to Fight for Children.

It’s a Panko-crusted chicken cutlet with Bantam Chicken spread, beefsteak tomatoes, blue cheese, KO! Sauce, red onions and shaved lettuce.

“As a successful homegrown business here in D.C., we’re proud to support and invest in local community partners like Fight for Children,” said Taylor Gourmet founder Casey Patten. “The Champ-for-Children hoagie is a fun way for us to support Fight for Children’s work and an easy and delicious way for our customers to get involved.”

Taylor Gourmet has 11 locations in the D.C. area.

Fight for Children was founded 26 years ago to marshal resources for children from low-income communities in D.C. Its early childhood education program, called Joe’s Champs, operates in 17 schools. It’s named after the late Joseph Robert Jr., who created Fight for Children and Fight Night in 1990.
