SolarCity hiring, expanding in Maryland

WASHINGTON — San Mateo, California-based solar power energy services company SolarCity Corp. has opened its fifth operations center in Maryland and has jobs to fill across the state.

SolarCity’s newest, 20,000 square-foot operations center is in Upper Marlboro and will allow the company to expand residential and commercial solar installation work in the Annapolis and Southern Maryland region.

The new operations center has 75 employees now. SolarCity says it currently has more than 100 open positions across the state, including installers, sales, electricians and engineers. The company has about 1,000 employees in Maryland now.

SolarCity installs residential solar panels for no upfront costs.

In October, it won a contract from Montgomery County for solar installations at 14 county-owned properties. It will own and operate those installations, with the county signing a 20-year contract to purchase the power they generate.

Installations include county libraries, recreation centers, correctional facilities, Department of Environmental Protection Solid Waste Services sites and other county buildings, grounds and parking lots.
