Need a 2-BR apartment? You’ll need $3K in some DC neighborhoods

WASHINGTON — The good news for D.C. renters is that the median rent for a two-bedroom apartment in the District has remained unchanged for the last two quarters. The bad news is that D.C.’s median apartment rents still rank in the highest among the 10 largest metros.

It will take $3,000 a month for a roomy apartment in many D.C. neighborhoods.

Trulia says 70 percent of the two-bedroom apartments on the market in Penn Quarter and Chinatown rent for more than $3,000 a month.

In Georgetown, 73 percent of currently listed two-bedroom apartments are more than $3,000 a month.

In Foggy Bottom and the West End, an area popular with GW students, 83 percent of two-bedroom
apartments are priced over $3,000 a month. You can’t even find a two-bedroom apartment in Foggy Bottom or the West End for under $2,000 a month.

There are more affordable neighborhoods for rents in the District.

Across the District, Trulia says 24.1 percent of two-bedroom listings are under $2,000 a month, and 68.1 percent of listings are under $3,000 a month.
