WOW Air ups its game at BWI

WASHINGTON — Iceland-based discount airline WOW Air will start flying from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport daily this summer, citing strong demand.

WOW began service at BWI last May, with four flights a week to Reykjavik, Iceland. The airline offers connecting flights from Reykjavik to several European cities, including London, Amsterdam and Berlin.

“Our bookings to and from BWI have far exceeded what we anticipated,” said WOW Air Founder and CEO Skuli Mogensen. “Ticket sales have been extremely successful.”

WOW Air’s new daily service at BWI will be year-round.

It is the second airline expansion announcement for BWI already this year.

Low-cost carrier Allegiant Air said last week it will offer flights to six destinations from BWI to Asheville, North Carolina; Cincinnati; Knoxville, Tennessee; Lexington, Kentucky; Savannah, Georgia; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. With the exception of Cincinnati, Allegiant’s BWI destinations are all new to BWI.
