WASHINGTON — An ultra low-cost carrier that connects small cities to larger destinations will add six round-trip routes from Baltimore Washington International Airport this year, most of which are destinations currently not available to BWI travelers.
Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air will offer flights to Asheville, North Carolina; Cincinnati; Knoxville, Tennessee; Lexington, Kentucky; Savannah, Georgia and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Cincinnati and Savannah flights from BWI will be year-round starting April 29. Asheville, Knoxville, Lexington and Tulsa service will be seasonal starting this spring.
Cincinnati is the only destination of the six currently served by other carriers at BWI.
Allegiant Air is a subsidiary of Allegiant Travel Company, which focuses on linking travelers in small, underserved cities across the country to larger metro destinations. The company also offers hotel bookings and car rentals.
It serves more than 100 markets nationwide.
BWI, now the busiest of the Washington region’s three airports by passenger count, continues to add both domestic and international flights. Through October of last year, BWI had four straight, record-setting months for passenger traffic.
