WASHINGTON — A 14-year veteran Baltimore police officer has been arrested by the Baltimore County police and accused of drug trafficking.
The county police said Spencer Moore was taken into custody Tuesday after officers saw him conduct a drug transaction. They said a search of his vehicle turned up more than 100 oxycodone pills.
“The investigation has been going on a couple of months,” said Baltimore Interim Police Commissioner Gary Tuggle, who added that the city police department’s internal affairs division opened the investigation into Moore.
“As we went about the investigation we realized we needed to bring Baltimore County into it. We also found there was a need to involve the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration),” Tuggle said.
Moore has had previous brushes with trouble, and had been suspended for two unrelated incidents several months ago.
“He was on suspension with pay, “Tuggle said, ” … but as of last night he’s been put on suspension without pay.” Tuggle declined to provide details on what led to Moore’s first suspension.
The Baltimore County police said Moore is charged with two counts of possession with the intent to distribute a narcotic, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and obtaining a prescription by fraud.
Keon Bennett, who is accused of being part of Moore’s alleged drug transaction, has also been arrested.
