Washington, D.C. WTOP was honored over the weekend with five awards by the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters, four superior and one meritorious.
WTOP Reporter Andrew Mollenbeck was awarded superior in the Best Documentary or In-Depth Report category for “New Arrivals, Reporter Megan Cloherty meritorious in the Best Feature or Human Interest category for “A Typical Day Turned Deadly” and Chris Core superior for “Core Values” in the Best Editorial or Editorial Series category.
The WTOP Newsroom also received superior awards for the following:
• Best Coverage of a Spot News Story – “The Bob McDonnell Verdict”
• Best Coverage of a Continuing News Story – “The Search for Hannah Graham”

The Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Awards are an annual competition that is aimed to recognize outstanding performance in broadcast journalism. The awards were presented during a luncheon on Saturday in Charlottesville, VA.
