Brian Drew has lived almost his entire life in the Washington, D.C. area, so it came as quite a shock when he was hired by WTOP fresh out of college in 2006.
For four years professors and advisors told Brian and other students that they would probably have to spend years freelancing before finding anything stable, and it would probably be at a small station in the middle of nowhere.
Well, they were partially right, because Brian was brought on to work freelance in operations, but since then he’s moved on to become one of the behind-the-scenes utility players at the station. On any given day he can be found working back in operations, as an assistant editor, and occasionally filling in on the editor’s desk. Brian spends most of his weekend mornings writing and editing wtop.com.
In his free time Brian listens to a lot of music (what is generally called indie rock, but he prefers to call it popular unpopular music), spending time with friends, catching up on his Google Reader feeds, and trying to find some time to read fiction or catch a movie.
