Police: Body of man who wandered from group at Sandy Point recovered

WASHINGTON — The body of a man who went missing at Sandy Point State Park Tuesday afternoon has been recovered, authorities say.

Maryland Natural Resources Police tweeted Wednesday night that the body of 71-year-old Burns Brabham has been found.

Police spokeswoman Candy Thompson said that Brabham was on a trip to the park with his group home from Pennsylvania.

When the group got ready to leave the park at around 3 p.m., Thompson says they noticed he was missing and immediately reported it to police.

Police said Brabham suffered from mental illness and was legally blind. Police were concerned for his well-being, prompting a search of the area.

Thompson said Natural Resources Police officers along with park rangers and state police searched the water, woods and numerous areas of the park on Tuesday. A state police helicopter with infrared capabilities, as well as search dogs, were also assisting in the search for Brabham.
