WASHINGTON — Summer is the time for romance — for long walks around the city and wine at the jazz lounge. And apparently a city in Northern Virginia is one of the most romantic places in the country as National Romance Month in August approaches.
Ahead of the occasion, ProFlowers compiled a list of the nation’s most romantic cities. In determining which cities are the most romantic, they analyzed:
- Percentage of the population that is married
- Romantic restaurants per capita
- Boutique hotels per capita
- Public parks per capita
- Walkability score
Alexandria, Virginia is the fifth most romantic city in the U.S., according to ProFlowers. In particular, Old Town Alexandria has a high concentration of shops and restaurants “lining the enchanting cobblestone streets,” ProFlowers wrote.
Alexandria was the only East Coast city on the list. Sunnyvale — in California’s Bay Area — ranked No. 1 on the list. California cities Torrance, San Francisco, Pasadena and San Diego also ranked on the list.
The Upper Northwest also had a strong showing: Seattle ranked fourth, Portland, Oregon ranked sixth, and Bellevue, Washington ranked eighth. Honolulu, Hawaii ranked No. 2 on the ProFlowers list.
