6 killed in two-vehicle crash in Caroline Co., Va.

WASHINGTON –  Six people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Caroline County, Virginia.

The crash occurred on Interstate 95 northbound at the 112.4 mile marker around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Steve Vick.

Traffic was diverted onto Route 1 via Ladysmith.

A 1998 Dodge van was traveling north on I-95 when it ran off the road to the left and came back right across two travel lanes striking a 2016 Toyota Camry in the right lane.

After impact the Toyota spun out in the road, the van continued off the road to the right, over-correcting back left and overturning approximately five to six times.

Six passengers in the van were ejected.

The driver of the  van and nine other passengers were transported to Mary Washington Hospital and Spotsylvania Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

The six passengers that were ejected included four men, a woman and a juvenile, all of whom died at the scene.

The van had sixteen occupants. Police say that riders in the van did not appear to be wearing seat belts.

The crash investigation is being assisted by the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and currently remains under investigation.
