Wind advisory helps save kidnapped Powellville woman

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) _ A woman who says her ex-boyfriend abducted her has been rescued after Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel employees helped the suspect move his surfboards across the bridge.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says they responded Sunday to a call of a woman saying her ex-boyfriend, Phillip J. Timmons, was taking her from her Powellville home. Nobody was at the house when deputies arrived.

Investigators learned that Timmons and the woman had been located at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.

Authorities say the suspect was trying to cross with two surfboards in the back of his truck. Because of wind restrictions, the surfboards were removed and transported by a road crew. While the surfboards were being unloaded, the woman escaped and ran toward responding officers.

Timmons was arrested on kidnapping, abduction and firearm-related charges.
