Ex-Army Corps spokesman pleads guilty in Va. to child porn charges

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) _ A Winchester man has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

Michael Steven Beeman, 62, entered the plea Tuesday in federal court in Harrisonburg.

Prosecutors say Beeman is a former regional chief public information officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Law enforcement was alerted in 2014 after someone who walked Beeman’s dog discovered naked images of children on one of Beeman’s electronic devices. Prosecutors say a search warrant executed at Beeman’s home turned up thousands of images of child pornography on multiple devices.

Beeman pleaded guilty to one count of transportation of child pornography and four counts of possession of child pornography.

He faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison.
