Stewart announces date of ‘Daily Show’ departure

WASHINGTON – Enjoy Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show” while you can – the comedian has announced the date he’ll leave the Comedy Central program he’s hosted for 17 years.

At the end of Monday’s show, Stewart announced that his last show will be Aug. 6. He didn’t provide any details of what the finale would include, but cracked, “I will be wearing a suit; I will more than likely be showered.”

He also announced a raffle for tickets to his final taping, with tickets available for a donation to his favorite charities – New York Collaborates for Autism and Night of Too Many Stars, the annual variety show he hosts to benefit autism charities.

Comedy Central has already said that South African comic Trevor Noah will take over “The Daily Show” upon Stewart’s departure; the date of his first show hasn’t been announced.
