Homeowners speak out against I-66 widening

WASHINGTON — Citizens from a Fairfax County town are speaking out against widening Interstate 66 outside the Capital Beltway.

Virginia Department of Transportation plans call for new toll lanes similar to the 95 and 495 Express Lanes in addition to new interchanges. Five homes in Virginia’s Dunn Loring will be taken as part of the project.

On Wednesday, several homeowners reiterated that they moved to Dunn Loring to use transit and go car free, but now they’re being pushed out and forced back into cars.

They also argue that adding toll lanes on I-66 won’t ease congestion.

Lawmakers at the Transportation Planning Board are expected to approve a measure that would qualify the project for federal dollars.
