    So
The only type of gun control is confiscation?

The NRA once advocated for background checks. Clearly, it wasn't ever going to support restricting any specific type of firearm.

Are there no rational rules we can put in place that allow you to keep all of your guns, but make it more difficult for criminals to illegally obtain one?

    Let's try
enforcing the laws already on the books. You are NEVER going to absolutely prevent criminals from getting guns, but making it more difficult for law abiding citizens is just the wrong way to solve the problem.

    Still doesn't equal confiscation
There is some legitimate debate on whether existing gun laws are actually being enforced and/or effective up to their capabilities.

But regardless, what's wrong with expanding background checks? That's a change that wouldn't impact your ability to own or keep a gun/guns.

Any one gun control proposal may be a good or bad idea. But automatically equating gun control to confiscation doesn't help the debate. It's not a threat to legitimate gun owners to say that we'll restrict recently parolled sex offenders from being able to purchase new weapons, is it?

...is already equaling confiscation. Look at NY. They are already confiscating guns after they passed this registration laws.

    Evidence?
I've seen the NYSP try and confiscate firearms from people taking certain medications, and then that they had made a mistake.

That said, confiscation would require additional legislation. No Supreme Court, regardless of the makeup, would argue that a law requiring registration would automaticlly allow confiscation. And there is no way - none- that the Congress would ever pass a law allowing nationwide confiscation.

Why not call it offensive to the nonChristian victims of criminals?

So far this year in America....27000 people have been shot...and 3000 killed
while there have been fewer than 100 justified killing in self defense.

Don't fall for the NRA lie about massive defensive gun uses..its just that...a big lie.

Kleck and Metz are two pro gun hack authors whose books about more guns and less crime have been completely debunked.
They have no evidence...no police reports...no facts

They did one survey in one Florida county...and tried to extrapolate that for the whole nation. One crazy woman in the survey by Kleck claimed that she had used her gun 52 TIMES in one year for self defense..and they believed her!

It's Disgusting That DC Infringes On Gun Owner's Rights To Do The Same
If gun owners wanted to demonstrate while armed in DC they would be in violation of DC's ridiculous laws. Clearly DC has no regard for our rights.

It would almost be worth it to get a group of thousands of gun owners to carry in DC to overwhelm the jails and legal system in DC. Unfortunately it would probably cause the gun owners just as many headaches as it would the DC dictatorship.

which constitutes the vast majority of our gun deaths. Normally they ignore it and focus only on mass shootings that involves whites in suburbs.

    What can be said?
While I feel for the victim’s and their families affected by gun violence, I refuse to give in and become a victim. I as well as others are law abiding and have owned guns for a long time with no issues and the piece of mind that comes in being able to have a chance in defending ourselves. We are not the criminals; we are not the ones causing murders. Why does the innocent always have to take a back seat to the criminals while the liberals try to take away our rights to level the playing field for the criminals? Gun control does not work; criminals will always find tools to inflict harm while the liberals will make it easier for them. In the end it is about senseless deaths, how many more things in this country even cause more senseless deaths than guns? There are many other things on a long list, as well these things can be dealt with and they don’t have constitutionality about them, but if it were not from the constitution for the prevention of government tyranny gun rights would not be an issue as it is the corrupt that want you to be defenseless looking for every little hole to suck you in.

What ever they may tell you there is not a armed police presence that can be every where at once, there are gangs and those that want to do harm. The difference from an assault weapon and a regular weapon is the capability to do rapid fire, folding stock bayonet lug as well as other features is mere cosmetics and no more, but yet government wants you to believe different. A shotgun may be good in certain circumstances but a semi auto is easier to fire easier to control and as well is more accurate when you need it to be. If semi rifles are no better than shot guns than tell me why in fact do law enforcement need them?

As far as background checks, all sales from a dealer whither at a GUN SHOW OR OVER THE INTERNET background checks are already required. The only sales that do not require background checks are PRIVATE SALES.

    DON'T TOUCH MY GUN!
I want to be able to protect myself should anyone try to harm me or my family. If the libersls (DEMOCRATS) think crime is bad now, wait til you start taking innocent people's guns....it will be worse because criminals will know they are safe...but they will never touch my guns....NEVER!!!!

    Keep all of your guns
Not all gun control involves restricting legitimate gun owners in any way.

My ideal system would allow you to have ANY weapon you wanted, so long as each weapon has the ability to imprint an ID number on the shell casing (existing technology), there's a background check on every sale, and every gun is registered to its current owner. Under that system, we have a strong chance to either ID the perpetrator for a gun crime, or at least find the last legitimate owner of a weapon used in a crime and prosecute them as a straw buyer, if necessary. It won't stop all gun crime, but it will reduce the amount of illegal gun purchases. And maybe it's not even good policy, but it's a proposal that doesn't touch your guns. We need more of those.

    Allow????
You are going to "allow" something? Do you not get it????

The one requiring the permission, under our Constitution, is the government.

You don't "allow" an inalienable right. One is born with it. One can be denied their right as a sanction associated with a crime, but until then, IT IS INALIENABLE no matter how much you wish it wasn't.

    Allow indeed.

    Semantics
We don't allow 5 year olds to buy guns. We don't allow anybody to purchase fully automatic weapons. We don't allow anybody to purchase uranium-tipped bullets.

My only point was that I would be comfortable with you being ALLOWED to own a fully automatic weapon under certain circumstances. In other words, my version of gun control might actually INCREASE the number/types of guns that law-abiding citizens can have.

And you clearly demonstrate the problem with discourse today
I offered a proposal. One in which, I explictly said may not be good policy, but was one suggestion that did NOT include restricting gun access to law abiding owners, and that we needed more suggestions like that - i.e., that would not affect those law abiding owners.

You offer nothing constructive, not even a critique of why the proposal is bad - which of course, I already acknowledged may be the case. So, do you actually have anything constructive to add to the issue of gun violence - one component of which is the appropriate level, if any, of gun control - or are the existing gun deaths simply acceptable losses to you?

who loosened German gun laws..not strengthened them.

He passed out millions of guns to thugs and criminals like the SS and Gestapo

He cancelled gun control laws passed by the Weimar Republic that were aimed at disarming the Nazis themselves.

The insane idea that by doing criminal background checks in the US that we are being like Nazis shows just how stupid the gun lobby and its followers are.
