Re Big Bird. You could fry, boil, fricasee, grill, or bake him 100 times over and it would make absolutely no dent on the fiscal problems we have, so defending Mitt Romney's position on government support of such activities is beside the point, and it wasn't even Romney's point either. Romney's point was about the culture war, not the fiscal war, and it was a shot at PBS and other things that his audience finds snooty, i.e., liberal, etc. It was a dog whistle, and it was about responsibility (a version of the 47% crack), and it was reminding his audience that there are lots of leeches out there he wants to peel off the government.
