A couple clarifications on comments made by Politico reporter Lois Romano's story on Mitt Romney owning his Mormonism. First of all, the reporter inaccurately stated that Mormon churches are closed to the public. While Mormon temples are not open to the public, all Mormon churches welcome everybody. Temples are reserved for special ceremonies like marriages and therefore are not open to the general public but our Sunday meetings are always open to anybody that wants to visit. Secondly, she made a comment about women that left an impression that women are not valued in the Church. Nothing could be further from the truth. Women hold many leadership positions in the church and regularly speak to our congregations, pray in our meetings, and participate in leadership councils. More information can always be found at lds.org which makes it very easy for a reporter to get accurate information for stories.
