Police: Man found dead in Maryland was homicide victim

MOUNT RAINIER, Md. — Police say the death of a man found on a sidewalk in the city of Mount Rainier in Maryland is a homicide, and they have few clues to go on.

Prince George’s County police on Monday identified the victim as 25-year-old German Garcia-Paredes of Brentwood.

Police said in a statement that Garcia-Paredes was found dead Saturday in the 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue. Police say they were called to check on the welfare of a man found on a sidewalk.

Police say when they arrived they found Garcia-Paredes suffering from trauma to his upper body.

“When they arrived, the officers discovered the 25-year-old victim suffering from … a gunshot wound,” said Prince George’s County police spokesman Cpl. Tyler Hunter.

Garcia-Paredes was pronounced dead on the scene.

County homicide investigators are trying to identify a suspect and a motive in the killing, and they’re asking the public for help.

“Anyone who may have known the victim or known what he was doing Saturday and Friday night, I know our detectives would love to speak with them,” Hunter said.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the killer.
