PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — VT Halter Marine’s shipyard in Pascagoula has launched its largest ship yet — the 692-foot carrier “Marjorie C.”
The Mississippi Press (http://bit.ly/1uDxkei ) reports that hundreds of workers and company leaders applauded Saturday as the ship sped down its launch legs and splashed sideways into the water.
CEO Bill Skinner says the $114 million ship is made to carry cars, tractor-trailers and containers,
It’s being built for Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii, which offers transport between Southern California and Hawaii for a variety of vehicles, yachts, heavy machinery and oversized cargo.
Pasha Hawaii’s website says the new ship will allow weekly service to Los Angeles and San Diego, up from every other week.
VT Halter Marine Inc. is a subsidiary of VisionTechnologies Systems Inc., of Alexandria, Va.
