Large diamond ring donated anonymously to Goodwill

ANNANDALE, Va. (AP) — A 3-carat diamond ring donated anonymously to a northern Virginia Goodwill thrift store has attracted bids exceeding $9,000.

Employees at Goodwill’s Annandale store tell WRC-TV ( ) that the ring was dropped off in a plastic bag with some other jewelry.

Goodwill had the ring appraised and posted it for auction on its website, The high bid as of early Tuesday morning was more than $9,000. Bidding on the ring closes later Tuesday morning.

While it is not unusual for Goodwill to receive donated jewelry, workers there say a diamond ring of this size definitely stands out.

Goodwill says the money will be used to support job training programs.
