WASHINGTON — After the U.S. Patent Office ruled Wednesday that the Washington Redskins nickname is “disparaging of Native Americans” and that the team’s federal trademarks for the name must be canceled, many people sounded off about controversial, decades-long team nickname.
WTOP took to social media to ask people what should replace the “Washington Redskins” if this is the end for the team’s nickname?
Below are some of the responses:
RT @WTOP If this is the end for the "Washington Redskins," what do you think the next team name should be? ))) Senators?

@dcborn61 @WTOP @nbcwashington Let's rename the team. I propose the Washington Filibusters. #Redskins

On the WTOP Facebook page, many people offered suggestions, too. One person said “keep the logo, change to Warriors.” Another person said “Washington Federals, Feds for short,” while another wants “Maryland Crab Cakes.”
One option from a Facebook commenter: The Government Bullies.
