Thousands without power after Virginia storms

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Dominion Virginia Power says more than 10,000 customers remain without power after severe thunderstorms rolled through the state.

The utility says more than 5,500 customers were without electricity in southeastern Virginia on Friday morning and nearly 4,000 customers had no service in the Richmond area.

More than 44,000 Dominion Virginia customers lost service Thursday night during the storms, which produced wind gusts of up to 60 mph. The National Weather Service in Wakefield says spotters reported nickel-size hail, while trees fell across roads and onto homes in several areas.
