Obama point man on Detroit to join VP Biden’s team

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s lead coordinator on Detroit is joining Vice President Joe Biden’s team.

The White House says Don Graves will start as a counselor to Biden next week and will work on domestic policy and economic issues.

Graves is a former Treasury Department official and ran Obama’s jobs and competitiveness council. Last year, the White House sent him to Detroit to coordinate the federal assistance effort after the blighted city went broke.

The White House says Graves will keep working on Detroit’s recovery and will consult with the administration’s team on the ground.

Biden had dinner with Detroit’s mayor during a visit to Michigan earlier this year.
