The Gallery of Bethesda is the first of the new high-rise residential buildings to open in Woodmont Triangle and the first new residential building to open in five years in downtown Bethesda.
The 17-story, 234-unit luxury apartment from developer Donohoe began move-ins on Auburn Avenue in February. On Thursday, it’s celebrating an official grand opening and a long list of firsts, complete with tours and a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce.
Besides its status as the tallest residential building in Bethesda, the property manager is pushing the Gallery’s luxury amenity package — the rooftop pool and barbecue lounge, sky lounge with kitchen, conference room, fitness center, cyber lounge, coffee bar and pet spa — as the first of its kind in town.
A press release claimed the building was designed to be the most green building in Bethesda. It’s also Bethesda’s first 100 percent smoke-free apartment.
Brad Marson, executive vice president of Vantage Management, said that novelty has helped the property manager lease 105 of the Gallery’s 234 units.
“That’s a very good leasing velocity. Again, being new helps,” Marson said. “We’re the first one in five years. But being new only gets you so much. There’s a lot of new coming, so our primary focus has been on service.”
There’s a concierge service to set up dinner reservations and help with dry cleaning. The mail room includes a touchscreen with weather information and Metro train arrival times.
Another selling point is the plaza, which will be home to a new deli. Marson hopes it will also be an important gathering space once the second Gallery Bethesda building is built across the way.
“That’s why we focused so much on the plaza area. We want people to come here. We want this to be a destination,” Marson said. “This whole idea of what that plaza area is going to become, where we have shops and restaurants, I think it’s an areas that’s going to add a lot to the vitality of this Triangle area.”
The Gallery has studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms ranging from $2,041 to $4,405 a month.
