CSX replacing western Md. Potomac River RR bridge

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park is advising visitors to expect minor traffic delays near Cumberland due to the replacement of a CSX railroad bridge over the Potomac River.

Park officials said Wednesday that the work will begin later this month near Lift Lock 74. That’s several miles south of Cumberland.

Park officials say the work will continue for about 18 months.

They say CSX is installing a temporary parking lot nearby at Lift Lock 75. The company also is building a vehicle bridge to serve public traffic on River Road and enable heavy equipment to reach the work site.

The park says visitors should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
