FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — The Bartlett name is back on a western Maryland ballot. But this time it’s Ellen Bartlett, the wife of former U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett.
Ellen Bartlett is running in the June 24 Republican primary for Frederick County Council. The 81-year-old candidate tells The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1kN8wsU ) she has never held elected office but was deeply involved in helping her husband during his 20 years representing Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
Like her conservative Republican husband, Ellen Bartlett favors lowering taxes and reducing government waste. But she says her first priority is protecting farmland to prevent largely rural Frederick County from becoming overcrowded.
Roscoe Bartlett lost his seat to Democrat John Delaney in 2012.
The couple’s son Joe Bartlett served three terms as a state delegate.
