Former Marquette commit Shayok signs with Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Guard Marial Shayok has signed with Virginia.

The 6-6, 200-pound Shayok, from Ottawa, Canada, originally signed a National Letter of Intent with Marquette. He was released from his commitment when coach Buzz Williams left the school to take the same job at Virginia Tech.

Cavaliers coach Tony Bennett made the announcement Monday.

Shayok played high school basketball at Blair Academy this year and was named the state’s prep player of the year.

He averaged 15 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the team finished 19-6.
