Fans injured in Spain after railing collapses

PAMPLONA, Spain (AP) — A railing collapsed as fans celebrated a goal during a Spanish League match Sunday, leaving more than 60 spectators injured as they tumbled forward.

The incident at Osasuna’s packed Sadar Stadium occurred after Oriol Riera scored in the 12th minute against Real Betis. Celebrating fans were leaning and sitting on the metal barrier when it gave way. Dozens of people fell, with some crashing on top of those in front of them, while others tumbled off the edge and to the ground.

Several people were attended to on the field by medical staff, with at least two taken away on stretchers.

The club said that 68 people were hurt. One man broke his leg.

The match was delayed for 35 minutes before play restarted.

Osasuna was relegated to the second division despite winning the match 2-1 on the season’s last day.
