The inaugural 8K Rescue 1 Run and Kids Ambulance Chase to benefit the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad will mean some road impacts on Sunday.
The race, set to start at 8 a.m. at the Rescue Squad (5020 Battery Lane), will go north on Old Georgetown Road, right onto Beech Avenue into Pooks Hill and south onto Rockville Pike before connecting with Woodmont Avenue via Fairmont Avenue. The runners will turn left onto Battery Lane from northbound Woodmont Avenue to head back to the station.
There will be no parking allowed on any of the streets involved in the race and be sure to look out for other traffic changes.
The Kids Ambulance Chase is open to children 12 and younger. All participants will get a t-shirt, water and Gatorade.
The entry fee is $40 for the 8K and $10 for the Ambulance Chase. All proceeds will go to the Rescue Squad which has a $2 million operating budget and does not take regular appropriated funding from the county government or any government.
“The course will take you through the heart of BCCRS response area, past Suburban Hospital, the closest trauma center in the area and though just a small fraction of the neighborhoods in the Rescue Squad’s response area. You will finish at the Squad, what members affectionately call “Rescue 1.” Upon completing your race, you can celebrate, enjoy your achievement, and enjoy post race festivities.”
