Police officer shot on Marlboro Pike

WASHINGTON — A District Heights police officer was shot on Marlboro Pike, but a bullet-resistant vest likely saved his life, according to Prince George’s County Police.

The shooting happened Saturday night near the Parkland Shopping Center on Marlboro Pike in District Heights. Prince George’s County Police Lieutenant Bill Alexander says two officers were on the scene responding to a robbery.

“They actually see the suspects fleeing the scene. They follow them into Parkland Court and very shortly there’s an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the officers. The District Heights officer was struck. We absolutely believe that his bullet resistant vest saved his life and he’s going to be fine,” says Alexander.

One suspect was also shot and taken to the hospital. Another suspect is being questioned. Police are still looking for the third man.
