Facebook unveils a ‘donate to nonprofits’ button

Facebook Inc. has unveiled a new feature that lets people contribute directly to a nonprofit through a donate button.

The social media giant announced the new feature on their company blog. The donate feature will begin to appear beside posts in news feeds by participating nonprofits. The button will also appear at the top of participating nonprofits Facebook pages, giving users the ability to immediately donate to a cause.

Facebook first introduced this feature in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. The response to that event inspired Facebook to open this feature to a broader audience.

The social media giant will slowing roll out this new feature, soon making it available to more organizations. They have already partnered with The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, ASPCA, American Cancer Society, UNICEF, The Red Cross and more.

If your nonprofit is interested in this new feature, Facebook requires nonprofits to fill out a basic donate interest form.
