On Saturday, a man will promote the network by riding Bikeshare bikes to 14 of the installed stations, a roughly 35-mile route that likely won’t ever be repeated.
Mark Mervine, a volunteer with the MoCo Epic mountain biking festival in Boyds, will do what the county Public Information Office has deemed the “Tour De Bikeshare,” starting at 3 p.m. in Takoma Park.
Mervine will criss-cross the county, hitting all installed stations in Takoma Park and Silver Spring, heading west to the station at the Friendship Heights Metro, north to the four stations in Bethesda, and then the long ride north to Rockville, Shady Grove and finally the MoCo Epic festival at the Maryland Soccerplex.
There will eventually be 51 Bikeshare stations in Montgomery County, including 15 total in Bethesda/Friendship Heights.
According to the county, additional stations are being opened Saturday and may be added during Mervine’s ride.
Mervine will start his ride at 3 p.m. It’s expected to take about three hours.
