Pumpkin Patch Pumpkins are pretty much ubiquitous with fall. They are fun to carve, delicious to eat and provide the perfect backdrop from a weekend getaway. Butler's Orchard in Germantown, Md., Cox Farms in Centreville, Va., and Gaver Pumpkin Patch in Mt. Airy, Md., are just a few options in the region.

Sugarloaf Craft Festival Take your pick of which weekend and location to enjoy handmade goods at the annual Sugarloaf Craft Festival. The festival is held Oct. 4 through 6 in Timonium, Md. The Gaithersburg event is held over two weekends this fall: Oct. 11 through 13 and Nov. 22 through 24.
