County Files Appeal Of Approved Pepco Rate Increase — County Executive Isiah Leggett on Tuesday had the county attorney file an appeal in Montgomery County Circuit Court against the recent approval of a $27.9 million rate increase for Pepco. Leggett said granting the money, even though it is less than half of the $60 million Pepco requested, “is premature and unwise.” The Maryland Public Service Commission made the decision on July 12. Leggett also said an approved Grid Resiliency Charge, which would add some money onto monthly power bill in order to forward fund Pepco improvements, is setting “a terrible precedent.”

‘Atypical’ Events Led To Chevy Chase Water Main Break — A wire that was weak because it had not been pre-stressed, leaking chlorinated water and slowly corroding steel parts inside the pipe all played a part in the March water main break at Chevy Chase Lake Drive and Connecticut Avenue. The three simultaneous problems led to an undetected break and much damage to trees, asphalt and power lines in the immediate area. [The Gazette]
