Toki Underground chef/owner Erik Bruner-Yang will move ahead with a pop-up of his forthcoming market and restaurant, Maketto, despite a run-in with the law last week when he was arrested in connection with a domestic dispute.
Maketto, a collaboration between Bruner-Yang and Will Sharp of the D.C.-based Durkl street clothing line, is planned for 1351 H St. NE, not far from Toki. It will combine retail and restaurant spaces, serving street food, coffee and donuts and selling food products as well as apparel, but is not scheduled to open until the end of this year.
In the meantime, Bruner-Yang, Sharp and chef de cuisine James Wozniuk will operate their pop-up for three months at Hanoi House, the Vietnamese restaurant that opened at 2005 14th St. NW late last year, starting July 15.
The pop-up will be open during dinner Monday-Saturday and cost $30 per person for a set, family-style menu inspired by authentic Asian street food. (The kitchen will not be able to accommodate allergies or dietary restrictions.)
The Maketto pop-up will also have a dim sum cart, on which offerings will change nightly. Dim sum will be available a la carte in addition to the $30 per person dinner charge. Reservations are required for the pop-up and can be made through Hanoi House’s account on OpenTable.
