New Parking Rates Take Effect July 1

Parking meters in a county garage in downtown BethesdaMontgomery County is reminding residents that new parking rates for county garages, lots and on-street spaces go into effect July 1.

After determining higher demand for on-street spots than lots or garages, the county’s Department of Transportation recommended changing the way the county applies rates in downtown Bethesda. The County Council approved the change in the FY14 budget.

Instead of the $1.25 per hour rate for short term parking (four hours or less) and the 80 cents per hour rate for long term parking (more than four hours), rates will now be determined by where drivers park.

Street spots will be $2 per hour because they are the most in demand and convenient. Spaces in surface parking lots will be $1.25 per hour and all garage parking will be 80 cents per hour.

Parking time restrictions will still apply and parking spaces may be restricted to short term or long term parking.
