An Entertaining Summer: This Season’s TV Preview

True Blood
"True Blood," HBO

Sookie, Bill, Eric and (most) of the gang return for season six of HBO's sexy Southern horror story. Some of the plot lines have worn a little thin recently, but this season looks darker and more dramatic -- if that's possible.

Showrunner Brian Buckner revealed in a Huffington Post interview that one of the main characters won't survive the season, and anyone's fair game.

"True Blood" is for fans of "The Vampire Diaries" and "American Horror Story."

"True Blood" returned for its sixth season on June 16, at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
Wilfred
"Wilfred," FX

"Wilfred" is absurd, surreal and sometimes confusing. That doesn't stop it from being one of the funnier, more offbeat comedies on TV this summer.

If you've never seen the show before, there are certain things you just have to accept -- like an Australian man in a beat-up dog suit being treated like a real dog -- but the dry humor makes it worth checking out.

"Wilfred" is for fans of "The League," "Workaholics" and "Archer."

"Wilfred" returns for a third season on June 20 at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
Copper
"Copper," BBC America

A jaded detective struggles with his personal life, as well as the sex, drugs and gang violence on the streets of New York City -- and it's 1865. "Copper" is a grimy, dangerous and compelling dramatization of post-Civil War crime and politics.

It's for fans of "Boardwalk Empire," Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes" and "Gangs of New York."

"Copper" returns for a second season on June 23 at 10 p.m. EST on BBC America.
The Newsroom
"The Newsroom," HBO

"The Newsroom," Aaron Sorkin's TV news station drama, comes back for round two this summer, and the show is taking on the 2012 elections.

Expect familiar topics like the Occupy protests and the Tea Party movement, as well as Romney's efforts on the campaign trail.

"Newsroom" is for fans of "The West Wing," "Sports Night" and "Broadcast News."

"The Newsroom" returns for a second season on July 14 at 8 p.m. EST on HBO
Whose Line Is It Anyway
"Whose Line Is It Anyway?" The CW

When "Whose Line" ended in 2007, we lost one of the best (and few) improvisational comedy shows on television. Thankfully, The CW is bringing back all three original cast members -- Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie -- for a reboot of the cult series. And from the looks of the promo, the guys are still in top form. Host Drew Carey has been replaced by Aisha Tyler, the voice of Lana in FX's "Archer."

"Whose Line Is It Anyway" is for fans of the original "Whose Line," "Trust Us With Your Life" and other live comedy improvisation shows.

"Whose Line Is It Anyway?" returns for a new season on July 16 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
Breaking Bad
"Breaking Bad," AMC

"Breaking Bad's" final eight episodes air in early August, and the fates of meth-dealing duo Walter White and Jesse Pinkman will be revealed. Fans of the show are wondering how the all the deceptions and betrayals will be resolved, or if they will at all.

"Breaking Bad" is for fans of "Sons of Anarchy" and "Justified."

"Breaking Bad" returns for its fifth and final season on Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
Dexter
"Dexter," Showtime

It's the final season of "Dexter," and the big questions is: Will he make it out alive? It's anyone's guess.

"Dexter" is for fans of "Six Feet Under" and "Hannibal."

"Dexter" airs June 30 at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
Pretty Little Liars
"Pretty Little Liars," ABC Family

A is back. And she knows everything.

No matter how "young adult" the show may seem, one thing is for sure: It's good enough to keep plenty of adults watching.

Will Hannah, Spencer, Emily and Aria finally piece together A's haunting mystery, while staying alive?

"Pretty Little Liars" is for fans of "Revenge" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

"Pretty Little Liars began June 11, but there is still time to catch up before this week's episode on Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST
