WASHINGTON – Three people were killed and one is in critical condition after a car crashed into a light pole and two trees early Sunday morning.
Police responded to a call reporting a single-vehicle crash at around 12:37 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Piney Orchard Parkway and Riverscape Road in Anne Arundel County.
When they arrived, police say they found a 2005 Subaru car that had hit a tree. They called Traffic Safety Section investigators to the scene because of the extent of the driver’s and passengers’ injuries.
Investigation has revealed that the car was going south on Piney Orchard Parkway after Riverscape Road. Due to the car’s high speed, the car could not negotiate a curve safely. Police say the car veered off the road, hitting a light pole and tree to the right and then hitting a second tree with the roof of the car.
The car’s occupants were all trapped inside as a result of the crash, according to police. The car’s driver, David Michael D’augustine, 22, and two passengers, Samuel Carl Schindler and Katherine Marie Warrington, died. All three people were 22 years old and from Odenton, Md.
The surviving passenger, Michael Phillip, 23, of Gambrills, Md., has been taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is listed in critical condition.
