WASHINGTON – Former Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn could be heading north of the border. According to multiple sources in Montreal, Zorn is one of six candidates to have interviewed for the vacant head coaching position with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.
The Alouettes are in search of a head coach after Marc Trestman left the organization earlier this month to take over head coaching duties with the Chicago Bears.
Zorn spent two years as head coach of the Washington Redskins from 2008 to 2009, compiling a 12-20 record despite a 6-2 start in his first season.
Zorn has since worked as a quarterbacks coach with the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs. The former NFL quarterback had a brief stint with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1986.
Alouettes Gneral Manager Jim Popp, the one-time general manager of the CFL’s Baltimore Stallions (1994-95), has confirmed on his Twitter account that Zorn is among the head coaching candidates.
The Alouettes are widely viewed as the class of the CFL with three Grey Cup championships and eight appearances in the CFL title game since 2000. Of the six candidates the Alouettes have reportedly interviewed, Zorn is the only one with NFL head coaching experience.
