Loudoun Co. sheriff’s deputy charged with assault

WASHINGTON – A Loudoun County sheriff’s deputy was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on Thursday after getting into a fight with a friend.

Robert B. DeGroot, 29, of Ashburn, Va., was arrested after police were called to a home on Bruceton Mills Circle around 7 p.m. on Thursday where DeGroot and a friend were working on a home.

The friend, a 28-year-old Ashburn man, told officers DeGroot assaulted him. He was taken to a hospital, treated for injuries and released.

DeGroot has been with the sheriff’s office for seven years. He works in the corrections and courts division.

DeGroot has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
