Va. man hit by car chasing dog, man and dog die

WASHINGTON – A Woodbridge man, trying to catch his runaway dog, was struck by a Mazda 3 on Spriggs Road on Friday, Prince William County Police say.

Erwin Valdez-Perez, 56, attempted to cross an unlit portion of Spriggs Road in Woodbridge, chasing after his dog, when the 19-year-old driver of the Mazda hit Valdez-Perez, killing him at the scene. A separate vehicle struck and killed the dog in the opposite lane of Spriggs Road.

Police say the driver was not at fault and wasn’t charged in the incident.
