Police charge 16-year-old in incident on Capital Crescent Trail

WASHINGTON – Detectives have charged a 16-year-old male with the attempted robbery and second-degree assault of two juvenile victims on the Capital Crescent Trail in Bethesda.

Montgomery County police received a call about the incident on Saturday, Sept. 29 at around 8:50 p.m. The victims, two 16-year-old males from Bethesda, and another juvenile were walking on the trail when they were approached by a group of five or six teenage males.

Police say the male suspect grabbed one of the victims and demanded money. The other victim attempted to intervene and was punched in the head and face by the suspect, according to police.

The other teens separated the two of them, and the suspect’s group left the area without getting any money. The victims returned home, and the injured victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, detectives from the Bethesda Investigative Section received a tip from the community about a possible suspect. On Oct. 4, detectives arrested and charged the suspect, who is from Rockville, in the incident.
