Capitals to go digital with season tickets

WASHINGTON – While the National Hockey League and its players search for ways to end their labor dispute, the Washington Capitals are thinking ahead with new ticketing technology.

When the NHL does hit the ice, Capitals’ season ticketholders can begin using new plastic, credit-card sized digital ticket cards loaded with all the season’s tickets.

“That’s the way things are going. Everything is moving toward digital,” says Jon Press, editor of the Capitals blog, Japers’ Rink.

Press says he expects some fans will miss physical tickets.

“There is a large section of the fan base that probably likes just the ritual of having that ticket stub,” he says.

Others may miss having the souvenirs.

“I look at my old ticket stubs every once and a while. You are brought back to those games and those times.”

Whether it’s a physical stub or a digital ticket, Press says he, like other fans, just wants to see the NHL and the players settle their dispute.

“Fans would probably take tickets stamped on their foreheads at this point to see some hockey.”
