Calculator helps commuters determine the benefits of working from home

WASHINGTON – The lure of working from home has attracted many commuters and now a new tool has been created that helps workers figure out how much time and money they would save if they did.

Govloop, a website dedicated to improving the way government works, has created an easy-to-use calculator that can tell commuters how much time and money they could save if they telecommuted a few days each week.

“Compiled from various federal databases and studies, the teleworking calculator uses time and distance traveled each day, vehicle type, and the number of telecommuting days to calculate your savings and productivity gains,” Govloop says.

Govloop says there is no answer on whether telecommuting is the best option. But the calculator is a tool that can help employees evaluate whether it’s an option they should think about further.

Here’s the calculator.
