Six Flags is hiring … monsters

BOWIE, Md. – Wanted: monsters.

At Six Flags, some terrifying sounds are echoing around an otherwise-empty park.

In preparation of the annual Fright Fest, would-be monsters, ghouls and other performers are auditioning for a spot to scare.

“I can be creepy when it’s time to be creepy,” yelled one teenager on the way into his audition.

Contestants must impress a three-judge panel with their scare skills to land one of 130 positions uniquely part of Fright Fest.

Many who showed up at the first casting call said they honed their spook acts at home.

“My dad has been scaring me and my sister a lot, so I’ve been trained,” says Jan Raymond, who said he also draws inspiration from horror films.

“My stepbrothers and my cousin — I love to scare them, it’s just so funny,” says Imani Nettles. “Especially when they come out of the bathroom or it’s dark in the house.”

The casting call continues Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the park in Bowie. Would-be monsters and ghouls must be at least 16 years of age. The part time positions are paid hourly over weekends in October.
