WASHINGTON – Handing the car keys to a teenage driver can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially if your teen doesn’t fully grasp the responsibility involved with getting behind the wheel.

But now there’s a new tool to help drive the point home.

One Simple Decision is a virtual program that not only highlights the dangers of distracted and drunken driving, but it also paints a vivid picture of what happens after a crash.

The program gives young drivers a first hand account of dealing with emergency personnel, police — even judges, after a crash or drunken driving stop.

One 19-year-old tells USA TODAY the program “puts everything in perspective and makes it really realistic.”

Safety advocates are increasingly utilizing One Simple Decision at events such as football games and county fairs.
